Wednesday 4th November 2009 - Publishing Company SCAM - Please be aware that the Federation of Window Cleaners does not recommend advertising with any Publishing company.  A registered member based in Staffordshire wishes to alert his fellow members of this scam.  He was contacted by someone purporting to be from "The Police Publishing Co"  who said the FWC had recommended him to them for advertising....it did not take him long to realise this is a SCAM.  Check out a company's credibility on the internet.

Friday 9th October 2009 -Terry Turbo Burrows breaks his own Word Record in just 9.14 seconds at the 2009 FWC Window Cleaning Competition in Blackpool, Lancashire.  Terry left just two water smears on the three 45" square windows, which resulted in adding a one second penalty point to his original time of 8.14 seconds to make 9.14 seconds - Well done Terry!! Friday 2nd October 2009 -The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has recently launched an awareness raising campaign to inform workers of their rights on pay, deductions and working hours.  The campaign has been developed in cooperation with employers, trade unions and the different enforcement agencies across Government.

As part of this campaign, they are promoting the Pay and Work Rights Helpline 0800 917 2368 (textphone 0800 121 4042).  Both workers and employers can call in confidence for information and advice on the minimum wage,  the right not to have to work  more than an average 48 hours a week as well as for information on employment agencies or gangmasters. Wednesday 30th September 2009 - HSE has issued a safety alert to inform employers and employees about recent structural failures of the main support structure (chassis) on Liftlux models SL260-25 and SL245-25 scissor lifts. This information is being provided in advance of the conclusion of HSE's investigations so that the industry can take prompt action to prevent a recurrence.    If you have one of these machines and have not completed the inspection as required by the manufacturers' bulletins, you should immediately withdraw it from service so that it can be examined by a competent person. Wednesday 10th September 2008

A male is due to be released from prison shortly,  who has convictions for distraction type burglaries. One of the excuses used by him to get into a house was to pretend to be a window cleaner and ask for water. He will be released to a house in  the North part of Stockport.   He is white, late 30s, shaven head, with tattoos on left and right arm. If you have any information contact the Neighbourhood policing team for the Stockport North area on 856 9786.

Friday 18th April 2008 - Past President of the FWC - Derrick Corwood passed away on Friday 18th April.  at the age of 81- The Funeral service was held at Davenham Church in Davenham Cheshire on Monday 28th April 2008.   The present committee and staff of the Federation of Window Cleaners would like to convey their condolences to his Daughter in-Law Annaliese Corwood, and two grandchildren.

Monday 22nd October 2007 Government proposal to update the 62-year-old drought legislation, which only restricts the use of hosepipes for watering gardens and washing cars.  The new law would allow water companies to enforce a "discretionary use" ban, outlawing virtually all domestic activities involving hosepipes.  Water-fed poles would be covered by a hosepipe ban under the law, however, a spokesman for the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs  confirmed that window cleaners could still revert to a bucket and sponge"  CLICK HERE for more information
